Upcoming workshops & Classes

Drawing on Location & on the Move. Saturday 9th November 10.30am-1.30pm. £25 + own sketch pad and pens/pencils. With Danielle Telfer.

For painters and sketchers of all abilities, we will look at how to improve your confidence in drawing outside of the home or studio and techniques in recording visual information quickly.

We will start the session at Artworks talking through techniques and preparing paper and sketchbooks for roughly 45 minutes. After that we will set out on a route planned to pass interesting architecture, natural areas and more populated areas. We will be out for approximately 1 hour (dress appropriately!), walking slowly and stopping frequently to draw before heading back to Artworks for a hot drink, something to eat and a chat about our work.
The workshop will be a fun way to build your sketchbooks and is designed to give you the confidence and skills to go out independently to make your own observational drawings.

You will be required to provide a sketchbook or paper, and pencils or sketching pens. The rest will be provided.

Monoprinting. Saturday 23rd November 10.30am-4pm. £40 + materials. With Stephen Goulding.

This course is aimed at individuals who have an interest in printmaking, but have little or no experience of the process.
Monoprinting is both a creative and versatile process that requires no specialist tools or equipment. It enables you to create unique artworks within a relatively short space of time.
Prints can be created by either transferring a sketch/drawing onto a prepared, inked surface (Monoprint) or by wiping the inked surface with a cotton bud/cloth to produce areas of detail and shadow (monotype).

Drawing the Human Figure. Saturday 30th November 10.30am-4pm. £40 + materials. With Oliver Lovley.
On this workshop you will be guided through ways to observe and measure the human figure. In an informal but focussed class you will work through practical ways to understand your own drawing and be shown tools to progress. You will try different mark-making exercises and timed poses (modelled by Oliver, clothed!) The focus will be on ways to achieve more of a personal and expressive method of mark-making combined with observation.

 Any level of ability welcome.

Individual guidance given.

Refreshments included.

 Materials needed:

Cartridge paper / thick drawing paper / sketchbook roughly 190gsm (at least 6-8 sheets A3 size) Soft pencils (ideally 2B, 3B and 4B) Charcoal (optional) Sharpener or knife Eraser
