Upcoming Workshops

Botanical Art With Maria Moldavsky, DipSBA(Dist) – Diploma of the Society of Botanical Artists with Distinction

Sat 22nd February & Sat 29th February 10.30am-4.00pm. £40 each workshop or £75 for both.

These workshops will provide a relaxed atmosphere for you to try something new, or to improve your ability if you are familiar with botanical art. The aim of these workshops is to enhance your ability to observe natural elements (leaves, flowers, fruits or vegetables) and to enjoy reproducing your observations on paper. It is amazing what you see when you look at your subject for a long time!
On the first day you will have a go at doing a life-size and detailed linear drawing of your subject in graphite (black pencil) in the morning, adding tone (shadows) in the afternoon.
On the second day you will work on composition (choosing what to include in your work and how to place your subject on the page) and the techniques of watercolour painting that are relevant to botanical art. You shall discuss the role of photography as an aid in botanical art.
Traditional botanical art requires patience; if reproducing your subject in detail does not come naturally to you, the tutor can help you find a different technique that suits you.

Any level of ability welcome; you shall focus on enjoying the process of drawing and painting and not so much on the results. Experience using watercolour desirable but not necessary. If you have some experience in botanical art, we can work on improving your technique and artistic approach.
The tutor will do demonstrations and give individual tuition. You will get a handout summarising the information offered during the workshops.

The cost of the workshops individually is £40 each, with you providing your own materials. You can choose to do either one of the workshops or both; if you sign up for both you pay a discounted combined fee of £75.
